Hurst Lodge vs. Coworth Flexlands

Hi, I'm looking for a independent school for my DS to start year 3 in Sep 2013. She is currently at a lovely state infant school. I've view Bishopsgate (which I loved but we are way down on the waiting list). Have viewed the above two schools plus Marist. Marist not for me- too religiously dogmatic. I want somewhere where they can flourish, be creative, if they are academic then great...but really I want them to reach their potential. Does anyone have any thoughts on Coworth vs. Hurst Lodge? I'm not sure what to do..thanks x

I have friends with children at coworth and they are very happy and doing well. Hurst Lodge wouldn't suit my DD but it is a lovely school. I would definitely ask about their finances tho as numbers are very low. Hurst is also more expensive than a lot of the other private schools around here which was a factor for us. Personally like the Marist!

Hi Gingerchez. My children joined Hurst Lodge in 2007 and we have been very happy with the school at each stage. They are absolutely thriving and this year has seen them absolutely blossom into sparky, bright children. My oldest child did really well in his junior exams this term, as did all in his class. Overall, I have found that each child is really 'known' to the staff and treated as a member of the 'family' rather than just a student, which although may not matter to some, it is important for us that the children feel safe in their environment.

We looked at lots of independents in the area and were really attracted to the ethos at Hurst Lodge. I know a few friends who have had children at Coworth and have found it very regimented & clicky.

I would also ignore rumours of financial insecurity at Hurst Lodge. They are having a complete refurbishment of their Kindergarten and Pre Prep department over the summer holidays and the smaller class sizes are that way on purpose; they don't allow more than 10 children in a class for core subjects. I know what I'd prefer given the option of a large or small class size!
Anyway, as with all these things its always best to go with your gut instinct, I just wanted to let you know how much we love it. Good luck x
