Bursaries

Hi all.
Just wanting to gather a little info, if anyone could help?
Very interested in Heathfield school, Ascot for my daughter at 6th form but read on their website that generally bursaries are awarded at the 10-50% mark. Having read the word generally it seemed to me that they may offer more if I was in say, a 'very bad financial situation' right now?
Does anyone have any experience with this school? Especially regarding the bursary part?
P.S - When I say bad, I mean it! ahha :)
Thanks!

Heathfield is a lovely school but poor it ain't !! It is full of kids with real money (exeat weekends are a petrol heads heaven), and lots of famous names (as in banks not celebs). They are lovely kids but they do have a lifestyle that 99.9% of the population will never afford. Just saying this so you know that if you require a bursary it may be affect your daughter (if she is tough enough she'll be fine). I found it quite sad as some of the kids hadn't seen their parents for 9 months, but school does a great job of building a family. It is a true, old fashioned full boarding school and produces bright lovely girls - ones that will never have to work for a living (although a lot do !!). Call the Bursar and ask !

mumsneedwine (excellent name by the way, haha!) I'll definitely ring up, seems the easiest way to find out. Gosh, didn't realise how elite it sounded, now you've mentioned it. I just don't want my dd to feel excluded if she attended ):
I'm correct in saying that this is the school that has socials with Eton, Radly, Harrow, am I not? (It sounds more snooty and what not, the more I go on! haha)

It is a fantastic school so don't let the elitist nature put you off totally. They do have socials with Eton, but then it isn't that far away (& lots of the girls brothers are there). Amazing teaching and opportunities (polo is a common sport). The girls are lovely but do come from homes with acres and tennis courts (plural normally) so it is a tough kid who fits in if not from monied families. There are many Chinese students there but that's pretty common at boarding school now. Do call them as its a beautiful place and your daughter will make some 'useful' friends !!!

Great help! Spoke to them today, very helpful. She was very worried about it being snobby and what not, although she's very well spoken, she's not snooty or anything of that nature. She does love horse riding and tennis though, so maybe some common ground there! Haha. Useful friends? :)

Riding and tennis good way to make friends. Sounds like she will love it and the girls aren't snooty in a bad way - they just have the air of kids with lots of money. Once had a lovely chat in the lunch queue with a year 10 and turned out our parents live 10 minutes away from each other. Mine in a 3 bed and hers on a 120 acre estate complete with stately home. Bless her, she saw this as completely normal.
'Useful friends' meant for future employment - lots of parents run large companies or are top of their fields. Some of the speakers they get in are amazing. Hope you get to visit as its a wonderful place.

Brilliant! It's not a first choice for her as we're still looking at a few other schools, but it does look lovely! I'm sure wherever she does end up going, she'll try to fit in to her best ability!
Oh, of course! I understand what you mean now, that totally flew over my head the first time I read it, silly me. Would be great to visit, even if she decides afterwards that she doesn't want to go, looks great!

Good luck with choosing. Must be a tricky decision as there are some fab boarding schools around - St Mary's is lovely too. Hope you and your daughter find the right place & I'm sure she will have a brilliant 2 years.

Thanks! Very tricky indeed. As you said, there are many great ones! Just had a look at St Mary's actually, it is lovely! Will definitely post back when she gets a place somewhere, thank you!
