applying for bursary

I am getting to the point where I think we may need to (buggery bollocks to that).

What info do they need to make a judgement?
We don't count every penny, but we aren't living it up! My worst 'crimne' is buying too many books from amazon! I guess we could spend less shopping... And cut after school clubs.

Would we need to prove that we are on queer street amd have no savings? We have tied up savings - so ISAs which are still worth diddly due to the recession. Mortgage isn't huge but we couldn't afford to sell and buy elsewhere. Car is an old banger and we don't pop off on holidays willy nilly!

I have my shopping delivered from Waitrose/Ocado I don't think bursars see this as disqualifying factor for bursaries! On the other hand owning a £500 000 home probably is.

My post would be very similar to middleclasses except with a lower wage and a higher bursary

lisad123 · 20/05/2012 23:51

Have applied for one for dd1 for sept. they asked for bank statements, value of house, mortgage statement and p60. They also did a home visit and went though more detailed stuff.
They will ask about working, if not why not and any assests you can sell ect.
We find in about two weeks! Confused

lisad123 · 20/05/2012 23:53

They also reassess every year!

Good luck lisad. As you will gather from these bursary threads, every school is different. I hope things work out.

We were also told by one bursar that they do not expect you not to take a holiday. My DH and I work very long hours to pay the school fees and we have one holiday a year because without it we would all collapse. The staying at home holiday is not an option as we all just carry on popping into work etc. This is a time when we all go away as family and recharge our batteries and have a thoroughly enjoyable time together. This years one and only holiday will cost about £1100 for the four of us for two weeks not exactly a mass extravagance! Our school is definitely more interested in assets I feel they leave us a reasonable amount of money to live on and if like us you work very long hours to earn our above average salaries they told me recently that they are even happy for you to employ a cleaner a couple of hours a week.
I too wish you good luck lisad.

Where did you find a two week holiday for £1100???? We are trying to find a holiday at the moment.

lisad123 · 21/05/2012 09:35

Ours took into account holidays and clothes and said they were happy we weren't living it up Grin
We go camping every year for our summer holiday and centre Parcs once a year in dec.
This year we are off to Disneyland Paris but mainly because we were given a holiday voucher to help fund it.

Has anyone had to write 'and how do you intend to fund your child's ongoing education' essay on the form? My friend got one and its quite daunting. Fair question though I suppose.
