DD1 spent taster day in yr 1 at potential new school yesterday. They assessed various and we were told that they were offering her her a place when we picked her up. Is it normal to also get some feedback or not?

thanks

If they carried out specific recognised tests, IQ etc, reading age etc, then yes, ask. if they simply asked her to write some letters etc then they might not.

I can't really see which tests they would use with a Year 1 child as presumably she is not really reading and writing much?

IME only if you ask for it. As much as anything they will be observing how she fits into a class setting.

At dcs school one child was so disruptive he was asked to leave partway through the assessment day.

Thanks all. I think they were just trying to assess current levels and potential (raher than just what she knows), and whether they think she would fit in there. We are already aware of where we think she is not doing as she could - hence the plan to move. I will maybe just ask if there is any feedback in an email and see what they say....

The purpose of the assessments will partly be to flag up whether or not the child will need additional support in class, if you received no specific feedback then i would safely assume that your child performed at to (at least) a satisfactory standard and will not in the immediate future need additional support to catch up/fit in.

I got a little feedback, (that his academic level was about middle of the class he would be joining, that he ate his lunch well, joined in the games at break-time and generally had enjoyed the day).

They didn't go into minute detail.

As others have said above, it's to see if your child will suit the school and the school will suit your child, to assess for SEN and to make sure there are no behaviour problems.
