Fayrazzled - Yes of course they can get people from other countries. But they really shouldn't need to, should they? They seem to realise that it would be better if we upskilled within the UK and used the talents we have here instead of bringing in outsiders. Do you think we are better off importing skills then? hmm interesting...

In theory you are right, the businesses should not have to educate the children however the government is incapable of doing so who should?

I think its all down to individual parents what they want for their children. My DS went to an independent prep with nursery from the age of 2 and when he was due to start reception last september, the school(except the nursery) became a Free school and was taken over by an organisation that runs a couple of academies in the area. Of course they maintain to uphold the standards of education and discipline of the prep, but the principal has resigned and some teachers are looking for other jobs. They have taken on more pupils from the local area and in terms of education it may be a while before we notice any decline but behaviour issues are very apparent now mainly from the new pupils and is influencing the others.
It turns out that parents were not paying their fees cos of hard times and the prep was finding it difficult to continue financially. However that nursery is now seperated from the Free school and has now formed a new independent prep(which also has a reception class) run by the same trust who ran previous prep.
