SorenLorensen · 31/01/2006 22:28

Actually I prefer Shakespeare. I was put off Chaucer at A level...The Wife Of Bath..aghhhh

Marina · 01/02/2006 09:34

She has to be doing the Miller's or the Pardoner's Tale then custy!
She has good taste in any case!
If she really lurves the man, buy her a copy of Katherine by Anya Seton. He has a walk-on part as the heroine's BIL (true although not much is known about his domestic arrangements so AS made it all up).
It may be an old-time bodice ripper but it is a fabulous story, well-researched - and a teacher of mine gave me a copy when I was 12 and doing Chaucer and I'll never forget the thrill of reading the whole book.

Oh Lord Beety's just reminded me how much I hated the Wife of Bath. Miller's Tale much more enjoyable.

But even Wife of Bath not as tedious as Paradise Lost. Am sure I would have got an A instead of B if Paradise Lost hadn't been one of the set books.

I once saw a really good performance of The Reeve's Tale in a pub, with bottles of different shapes and sizes moved around to indicate where the characters were - it made it so much easier to follow the bed-swapping.

popsycalindisguise · 01/02/2006 10:00

I loved the canterbury tales....but more so as the pardoners resembled our french teacher

unicorn · 01/02/2006 10:03
