Hi All,

I have just read a article about a reading programme called Reading Eggs. Just trying to find out if anyone has tried it and if so was it any good?

Trying to encourage my DS who is nearly 5 to read but he is more interested in playing with cars.

Many thanks.

Hi really interested too, just signed up for the free trial and my dd seems to love it so far. Don't have much info as we just signed up two days ago. What was the article you read? Was it any good? Smile

It is fun and quite simply brilliant. I've just bought it for my DS who's just turned 4 so going to reception in September and after a week he can 'read' 'mat, sat, cat'!! Grin

I've just bought a year's subscription for £18 which is half price. Pm me and I can send you the link. Can't do it here as am on phone and feeding dd who doesn't sleep (another thread).

Living Social website has an £18 deal for a year. i bought the same deal before xmas for my 5 year old ds and he loves it and has made massive progress. I've watched and it is an extremely well put togeter programme. There are quite a few bits he's not even tried yet like spelling etc as separate to the main programme.

There is a separate bit for fluent readers aimed at older kids that I have not tried yet so don't know if it's any good or not so can't recommend it for fluent readers. But it is good for kids who are still learning to read fluently eg revising/learning phonics.

You'd never get my ds to read for an hour - it would be like pulling teeth - but he will happily do this until I kick him off the computer.

Both my children use Reading Eggs, and we've used it for over a year. My DS is 8 and my DD 4. They both loved it to start with and now that the new section for older kids has been developed my DS has more to keep him occupied. The older section has a good selection of online books, including lots of factual ones which boys like and asks questions at the end of the reading etc. My DD has learned a lot through the programme and is reading. She also likes the songs, and dressing up her avatar. However, some of the games can become a bit repetitive and as the child progresses they can require some very quick mouse work. I just occasionally help with these so my DCs don't become disheartened. Would heartily recommend signing up.
