If you just came to church and sat quietly and left, would the priest still sign the school form?

I know its probably too late now but, its for Septembers intake at high school. Friends daughter had to leave the catholic primary for personal reasons and has now applied for the catholic senior school. My friend is not shouty but, they have continued to go to church. She says hello to the priest and the child goes to brownies there. She thinks this is enough. Do you reckon the priest will sign the form if he doesnt recognise the name?

If she takes it personally to him I can't see why he wouldn't.

Its the school that sends it to him though.

Probably worth her having a quick word with the priest then and explaining the situation as he will recognise her as a regular church attender but might not know her name (unless she knows that he knows her name, in which case I don?t think there will be a problem).

I took my form to the priest and introduced my self and dd as we had a new priest for a year and I had never really spoken to him But had known the previous epriest for many years, he asked if I attended the church I said I did but doubted I would be the diocess census. He took the form and he has made a habit of talking to us most weeks and got to know my dd quite well. I think your friend does need to introduce herself.

Fro what she said, the form comes direct from the school, it asks how involved with the church are the family?!! well. they were very involved with the attached primary school, until she had to leave. I have to say, as a priest, he's not very sociable, he talks to the same couple of people every week. Do you think he would have had the form by now if April is when they find out? She had to send her baptism and communion certificates and it is her local school. I dont dnow what her chances are, really.

She really needs to speak to the priest so he knows her name and face - if the form appears and he has no idea at all who it refers to, he won't be able to sign it saying "yes this person is a regular churchgoer". Even if he's not "sociable" she should be able to corner him after a service and explain that the form will be coming. If she then gave him a note with her name and address, and the name of the school, it would ensure he didn't forget it again!

I think she should have been a little more pro active, she should talk to him on sunday or telephone him before then.

The priest isn't expected to know every parishioner by name. I'm sure he has a process in place to meet those whose form he is signing, to clarify that they are recognised by him as regular mass attendees.

We got our form signed by the new priest but we did introduce ourselves to him and after that he kept coming round to say hello after mass. I know he's not signed for everyone.

He does smile at them and, she does go to communion. It will be a shame if he doesnt sign just because they dont approach him. I dont know how they know everyones name but, they have a knack.
