Sixth form at HABS Girls

My elder DD has been offered an unconditional place at sixth form at HABS , Elstree. She goes to a reasonably good grammar school near our house and has been performing very well. We had decided to try for HABS for two reasons 1) to improve her chances to get into a top university as in our view private schools provide better support for that 2) We were hoping that our younger DD would get admission at 7 plus this year and that solves the whole school run nightmare for us if they are at the same school and my elder DD can manage evening school pickup for my younger DD.

However my younger DD ,though had an interview at HABS after 7 plus entrance, was not offered a place and is in reserve list. She has been offered a place at her second choice school. Now my elder DD is offered a place at HABS and we are confused what to do.

If the younger DD had an offer we would have accepted elder DD's offer without any doubt. Now we are in confusion if it is all worth the school run to two separate directions . School bus for one of them is an option we are looking into. DH and myself work in London full time , so mornings and evenings are quite busy

My main question is whether it is worth moving school in sixth form to HABS from a good grammar school. If it is worth , then we are ready to take to extra pain of school run and other expenses .Need to make the decision this week ! Please advise..

Put your elder daughter on the coach. Pretty much all the children go by coach. No need for 2 school runs and yes, accept the place for her, it is a great opportunity for 2 years.

I would opt for her to remain at her current school. Assumng she's happy. You would save a chunk of money on fees and could easily supplement with the odd private tutor if you felt there was a problem. I would have though a grammar school was pretty good at uni advice.

Mumsnet is really good for help with uni applications.

My son is currently interested in changing schools for 6th form (from indy to state) and I'm not that keen. But I will support his decision if that's what he wants to do.
