rules for admissions in boroughs

Does one have to live at a certain address PRIOR to school admissions?

I thought I remember someone mentioning the borough they lived in required that they live at a certain address for 6 months prior to applying to state schools. We are planning on living in one of the London boroughs. Possible North/Northwest....maybe southwest.

I am moving from overseas in July. If we don't like where we live, and move in December and find a school closer to our preferred state school, would they then say we hadn't been living there long enough before the Jan 2013 deadline for reception spots?

Thanks.

No, not if you're moving from overseas.

They just may want to check that you're not temporarily renting a property for 6 months to get into catchment. Which you're clearly not.
