Who hates homework?

I HATE HOMEWORK! The strops and tantrums DS has over homework really gets me down. No matter when he does it, no matter what it is, he cries, he grumps and kicks the chair and it always takes him forever to finish it!

I can't stand it! He is presently crying over his maths homework. I have checked that he understands it - which he says he does, he just can't be bothered basically! Please tell me I am not alone. And please has anyone got any tips to make this better for me and DS! (He is 9 btw)

Hate it, hate it hate it, I feel like I have homework. Had something sent home recently advising me my dd had a project due. Fine, but i was "required " to sign the note and return it indicating I understood the instructions and deadline for the project. I sent back the note that my DD understood both things and would be responsible for getting the project done. I wanted to add"thanks but I did grade 3 already" but restrained myself. It's getting out of hand.

Bloss I agree with you. I simply don't have the time to get everything 'done' in class. And you are right there is a direct correlation between HW done and attainment (in every level of the school). And for that matter there is also a direct correclation between attendance and performance.

All the homework I've ever set at GCSE years has been directly related to their exam as I dont have enough time to teach it all in the lesson.

When it comes to the exams it is very noticable who did it and who didnt.

That said at the last school I was at we had to set it every week for every class regardless of the usefullness and an awful lot I had to set was a waste of time for the kids and for me having to mark it.

I would much prefer to set it when I felt it was relevant and useful. Where I am now I can do this!

my children love doing their homework...honest!
Only sometimes in the weekend they are not really enthousiastic...but no huge problems here.
I know what, let him do Kumon for a few months, he will love you for stopping it after a while and not complain about his regular homework anymore ;-)

Hi, new speaker- My Oldest son who is 9 loves homework now because he con do it indepently, and he gets great joy in showing his work to me and hubby. He started doing homework in year 1 (handwriting and one picece of homework a week!+ reading).
And slow he got more and more, utill he got a picece of homework a day, apart from friday! Maths is his favourite.
But my youger son , who is 5, hates homework and you really have to push him hard, to get anything done! He does not get homework from school, I give him homework. But it is really baics things, like handwriting, spelling, and maths for his level (6-7yrs). Does any one think this is wrong? I did do the same with my older son, but he was much brighter. ( it did him no harm and made him more confident!. I kown not all sibilng are the same and I should take note.
