TV in school

DD1 in reception has on a few occasions come home from school and said that at lunchtime that the kids've had the opportunity/choice to either watch a film indoors or go outside at lunchtime. Can understand TV it if it's tipping it down, but a couple of times it's been on dry days.

Generally I have no problem with her watching TV, but one of my prime expectations is that she gets some oudoor exercise and comes home from school tired!

Is this a general thing or is this school being a bit namby-pamby?

It occasionally happens at my children's school, particularly near the end of term. As it does not happen very often I'm not worried.

at ds1's school they send 'em out in all weathers bar torrential rain

I'd hate to think of all the pent-up boy energy in the classroom for the afternoon session if they didin't

Mine have never come home tired, argumentative, bad tempered excited and many other things but not tired.

At ds1's school they can join a lunchtime club if they don't want to go out but this doesn't involve watching TV. Any television-watching is done during lesson times.

I wouldn't be happy with this at all. TV in school is IMO only acceptable on the last day of term.

Unless it's educational programmes, but even then it shouldn't be too many.

I wouldn't be happy either. DD and DS (who go to different schools) can watch a video if it's chucking down (and they have the option of arts and crafts), but otherwise they are wrapped up and sent outside to play - as it should be, IMO.
