Gerrards Cross CofE school

Hi

We are looking to move out of SW London this year to be nearer to my in-laws in South Bucks.

I've seen a potential looking house in Gerrards Cross (that's actually affordable within our limited budget) and the nearest school is GX CofE. I gather it is rated by Ofsted as Outstanding so wanted to find out whether just because you fall within the catchment in terms of the postcode (according to the Bucks CC site) you will still get a place, or whether there is in reality a much tighter catchment?

If the latter, does anyone know what the catchment distance typically is? According to the rightmove site the school is 0.4 miles away but I don't know if they measure as the crow flies or by actual street journey. Part of the reason for our move, apart from to be closer to ageing parents, is to get away from the crazy competition in our neighbourhood where the catchment for the best school is now only 250 metres!

Any insider knowledge from local mums would be hugely appreciated!

Many thanks

Not a local parent, but taught at a neighbouring school for several years. My impression is that so many parents in GX go private there isn't a problem getting your child into the school. Good HT (if she hasn't changed in the last couple of years, which I doubt). All state schools in Chalfont St Peter are also places I'd be happy to send my child to - the only one in the area that people seem to avoid is Tilehouse at Denham. So even if you didn't get into GX, CsP Infant/Juniors or St Josephs would be good alternatives (I know less about Robertswood, but know both the HT and Deputy and really rate them).
