I was just wondering if they all charge if a child needs to see someone for 1:1 or small group help. And if so - how much is normal?

No charge from ours.

IndigoBell · 13/12/2011 09:30

They normally say their charging policy on their website.

All the websites I've looked at have said they do charge for 1:1.

MrsMcEnroe · 13/12/2011 09:32

Yes, I pay £15 per half-hour for DS who is dyslexic.

He does get quite a lot of 1:1 time with his teacher anyway, as he is in a small class (approx 18 children)

MrsMcEnroe · 13/12/2011 09:34

Btw OP, DS' 1:1 sessions (the extra ones that I pay for) are with a specialist dyslexia tutor who comes into the school once a week, and I pay her directly. I'm not paying one of the school teachers iyswim...

Canbury School

SEN Lessons: (if required) £15.00 and £12.50 per 20 minute individual or group lesson.

Godstowe

Learning Support Literacy support £34 per 45 minute lesson

MoreBeta · 13/12/2011 09:44

I know one that does charge for one on one SEN support as they have to bring in specialist teachers and another that provides free 'booster classes' before school for children with mild dyslexia and dyscalculia but they are done in a small group not one on one.

MRSJWRTWR · 13/12/2011 12:03

DS1's struggles with literacy and his school has a Learning Support department. He has a 45min 1:1 session once a week which costs us £25.00 a session.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/12/2011 12:17

No charge at DS's school. He has 1-2-1 or small group sessions a couple of times a week with one of the learning support teachers.

PalmTrees · 13/12/2011 16:21

Mine has no charge for small group sessions but full time 1:1 is approx £25,000 per year plus school fees. There is also additional cost of around £80 per hour for any specialists brought in, speech therapists etc

basildonbond · 13/12/2011 16:49

no charge at one of my dc's schools - but dc has a statement so is already getting funding

eatyourveg · 13/12/2011 17:10

£14 per period (half hour) out of class 1:1 with a qualified specialist teacher or £7 per period (half hour) for in - class 1:1 LSA support

tallulah · 13/12/2011 17:11

Ours charged extra for SEN provision. Can't remember how much (it was a long time ago)

manicinsomniac · 14/12/2011 08:49

No charge for 1:1 or small group with TAs or class teacher where I work.

But there is a charge for 1:1 lessons in the learning support department, I don't know how much.

CowsGoMoo · 14/12/2011 22:08

No idea of charges but yes my childrens prep charge for 1:1 and special help

StillSquiffy · 14/12/2011 22:13

Our indie recharges whatever the cost to them is. £25 per hr for 1:1 for dyslexia/dyspraxia, free for group sessions.

A friend's child needed a TA during classes and it cost £2,000 per term - the school pushed her to get a statement because then they can charge LEA instead of parent (though apparently you sometimes you have to take LEA to court to get the payment enforced, because their default position is to refuse to pay for indie-educated SEN costs)

LIZS · 15/12/2011 16:08

dc prep didn't for small group work but did for 1:1 sessions , about £15 per half hour iirc.

amerryscot · 15/12/2011 16:09

We only charge for 1:1 lessons when they are delivered by someone from outside, eg Dyslexia Action.

Loshad · 19/12/2011 22:32

no charge for ds 3 at his school - he gets specialist 1:2 for his dyslexia, and it could be 1:1 but he likes it better 1:2.
Ds2's school would charge extra for this provision.
