Question about working in a school

If a job in a school is advertised as being "term-time only" but is then listed as being for 43.10 weeks of the year, does that mean that you would be working during part of the school holidays (as I thought pupils were only at school for about 38 weeks of the year). Or does it mean that you are employed for 43.10 weeks but part of that time is paid holiday, so you'd therefore only be working when the school was open but would be paid additional holiday pay? And while I'm at it, what does 43.10 even mean??!! What is 0.10 of a week? I'm new to applying for jobs in schools as you can see!!!!

I'm term time and my contract is for 45.8 weeks or something like that. I am only in when the kids are in. ie 39 weeks or thereabouts so the rest is paid holiday. I get 45.8/52 of the full time pay for my grade but get paid monthly equally throughout the year. Hope this helps x

Thanks, that does make sense and is very helpful! x

You are legally entitled to 4 weeks of holiday or pro rata of four weeks if the job is part time, hence the strange number of weeks as the job is part time.

I think it includes your paid holiday too. I think the legal holiday entitlement has gone up higher than 4 weeks now actually but couldn't be 100% sure.

As the others have said, you get paid for a certain amount of the holidays, since everyone is legally entitled to s certain amount of paid holiday time.
here Although we don't get paid for 52 weeks, we get paid every month so the pay is averaged out to make sure you get the same every month.

Although children are in school 38 weeks, some support staff are expected to be in for INSET days, so will have contracts stipulating a 39 week working year, rather than 38 weeks.
