Wimbledon independent primaries: The Ursuline, The Study, The Hall?

This follows on from a previous thread, thanks for all the feedback so far.

Despite thinking previously that we'd missed the boat, it now looks like we might have some independent options, which is a huge relief as we're in a bit of a state primary deadzone ? with only one viable option which we're really not keen on for a variety of reasons discussed in a previous thread.

We have places pretty much offered from The Ursuline, The Hall and a possibility of an offer at The Study, and I'd like to see what, if any, knowledge is out there about these schools. They seem like such different places, it's difficult to judge between them... Like choosing between apples and oranges...

Any views/opinions/experience gratefully received.

I have boys so no personal experience of Ursuline and The Study, but have friends with daughters at both. The Study seems to come out tops from their experiences. I think drop offs and collections can be a bit fraught because of the site, but the school itself sounds lovely.

Have you considered Wimbledon High? (Haven't read your other thread)

We looked at The Hall School Wimbledon and discounted it very quickly. Have you been to the site? Parking looks like a nightmare! We were also put off the school by high pupil turnover and the bad experience of a friend, who removed her son from the school in September. I'm not sure if you're thinking ahead to secondary - the school doesn't perform as well as you'd want for ££££!

Good luck with your search....

Hi Celia, thanks for replying...
We did originally apply for Wimbledon High, but DD1 didn't get through the assessment - considering she can recognise all her numbers and most of her letters, can read basic words and do simple sums and is usually a very outgoing girl, we are left rather wondering what they are looking for!? It's possible though that she was a little overawed by the circumstances and didn't show herself at her best...

I really liked the Ursuline, small, really friendly and I was very impressed with the teaching staff I met. It seemed a very warm, welcoming place, if a bit shabby round the edges!? It's a huge advantage that we can walk there, and that they can take DD2 in the nursery when she's 3...

The hall is a ver different proposition altogether, rather non conformist, I imagine it would suit some children very well, others not at all. Do you mind my asking why your friend removed her son?

The study is the only one we haven't visited yet. I understand their results are excellent, but they seem the least friendly from what we've experienced so far... I know that's not the be-all and end all, but my eldest DD is quite sensitive so a nurturing environment will be key to her performing well, I feel. However it could be that their very friendly and nurturing towards the girls, just not so much towards the parents!!

Thank you for your reply though I appreciate your taking the time...

It's a shame that the study haven't been very forthcoming, I've heard the school itself is very warm and welcoming.

Friends removed their son from the Hall because of disruptive/bullying behaviour in the class by one or two boys which wasn't addressed or managed appropriately. He's now at a more traditional prep in Wimbledon and is thriving!

Go with your gut instinct!
