It's a list of three things e.g. liberte, egalite and fraternite commonly used in persuasive speeches. Otherwise known as tripling.

Or the e.g I always use with my bottom sets:-
You've let me down, you've let the class down and most of all you've let yourself down.

They always groan in recognition.

It's apparently very effective for speakers of languages like English where we automatically group things into 3s. (think about how we say phone numbers)

There are some good writing resources with groups of 3 stuff on teachit. Loads of speeches from famous people. I used it this summer and added Earl Spencer's at Diana's funeral.
