Anyone any experience of a Montessori Education?
How does it work alongside the National Curriculum? Are they at the correct levels to move up when they reach Secondary?

How does it differ to the National curriculum?
Basically any info would be great. :)

Im asking as im due to visit a Montessori school Open day soon before choosing schools for DD1 for the next September intake.

Depends on the school.

Our local school ensures the kids have covered the curriculum but teach using Ms methods.

My DD will be I. The first year that has done Ms all the way through from reception. So far she is on track for all the levels you would expect of her age, well ahead in Maths, but others in her year will be sitting the level 6 STATs as they have flown through with the Ms method

Is it a state or private school?

Its a 'new' school.. Government funded but classed as an independent school.
One of these new Free schools that have just opened.

What sort of training do the teachers have?

I've picked a M pre-school for my DS but was very tempted by a longer stint in the M prep school not far from us (however the logistics don't really work). My issues with the M school were lack of formal sport (like rugby) and lack of CE preparation, not the education. I thought the education looked very good.

They will be inspected by Ofsted like any mainstream school so they will have to demonstrate that they are meeting all the requirements of the NC/ ECM/ safeguarding etc, just as a mainstream school would, alongside the M curriculum.
