MOVING TO SALFORD?

Have been reading alot about families moving from London to Salford - just to say if you are, have a look wider around the area if the idea of living in the city doesnt appeal, we live close to the Peak District about 20 miles South East of Manchester, and it is lovely - good primary schools and high schools, with a good mixture of state and independent schools, great community and lots to do indoor and outdoor. It takes about 45 mins into central Manchester/Salford Quays, and there are good rail links... it is a very friendly part of the world, too! Please contact me if I can provide any more info about this area, also know of decent houses for sale too!

I think it would take longer than 45 minutes into Salford Quays wouldn't it? Particularly at rush hour? It used to take me 45 minutes by car from Salford to Stalybridge but that was out of the rush hour. The M60 can get fairly congested at rush hour and I'd think it would take quite a bit longer. I'd be surprised if you could do it by train in that time either. Maybe yes into Central Manchester, but it would take a further 20ish minutes to get out to Salford Quays by tram from Picadilly. However - I live in Salford and love doing so, so maybe I'm somewhat biased!!

45 mins is an optimistic timing I think, at rush hour it would be longer, especially in the evenings. There are other great areas around the Greater Manchester area anyway, Trafford for the grammar schools, rural areas around the West Pennine Moors.....

Are you trying to sell your house? Grin

We used to live in Wilmslow so south/SE of the city but not as far out as you and it would take DH far longer to get into town than 45mins in rush hour!

It can sometimes take 20mins just to trudge along the A57 through Salford to get to the Quays.

Hi - still sticking with the 45- 50 mins, in to MCR, have just done it! Depends on time of day of course, and how near you are to stations, which we are. Just felt that this part of the world was getting rather a bad press, so wanted to point out other areas if people were not keen on living in middle of city. And yes, have decided to move as well!!(for job reasons tho'!).

Ok, you are talking about on the train which I didn't realise. The other posters also probably thought you meant by car. Problem by train is needing to get into city centre then walk down for a tram to take you to Salford Quays, then a walk (assuming you're at the BBC).
