I thought all primary aged children did a glittery snowman card or something.Expectantly opened my childs reading folder and it was empty! Apparently the school does not do them nor mothers day cards apparently. Its only a little thing but i'm heartbroken. Dp says 'get a life' I get his point but i was so looking forward to this keepsake fromher reception year.

tell dp to sit down with her and make a card for mummy

hercules · 22/12/2005 12:31

At parents evening I found that some parents insisted their kids do it, other half thought they shouldnt!

flipsy · 22/12/2005 12:32

But why not?

because they werent all christians and some felt it wasnt the place.

Twiglett · 22/12/2005 12:33

not everyone celebrates christmas and it can be divisive

lessons are planned

teachers want a break and creative stuff gets too messy

take yer pick

hercules · 22/12/2005 12:34

I had one mum moan that her daughter couldnt do any homework as she wasnt religious and then asked me why we werent learning about Christmas and doing christmassy things in my lesson before christmas.

flipsy · 22/12/2005 12:35

I see your point but her school did do a nativity play so they can't be objecting on those grounds.

To me school is about fun and glitter surely thats a valid learning objective fgs they are only four and the writing in the middle; isn't that 'writing for a purpose'?

Ahhh, mine didnt.

My children do Christmas cards, Eid cards and Diwali cards! I suppose that's multicultural South London for you.

Hulababy · 22/12/2005 14:28

Really hoping DD comes home from nursery with one for me tonight! I made one with her for her daddy, but he never gets round to that with her for me.

merryTissmas · 22/12/2005 14:29

I got a Diwali card from dd and there are no Hindu children at her nursery!

There is one muslim boy, but as far as I know, they didn't "do" Eid

jambothesnowman · 22/12/2005 15:09

i never got one either from ds1 nursery i was gutted. my neighbours kid attends the same nursery and she got one

LucycatsGotTheTurkey · 22/12/2005 15:12

My dd did one this year (yr1) BUT she's written her Gran and Grandad's name in it (mil & fil), not us....

have we been leaving them to babysit a little too often? mmmmmmmmm

santabops · 22/12/2005 15:32

My class made cross stitch ones but they are NOT reception, a bit older...

Shimmers · 22/12/2005 23:51

Schools take different approaches. I work at an international school and we don't use the word Christmas as not everyone celebrates it. I don't personally agree with this and (being the rebel that I am) the kids in my nursery did do their own Christmas and Hannukah card for parents. As my 6 week theme running up to the Christmas period was festivals and celebrations I felt I could and should do this. We also celebrated Divawli in October and sent a card to parerents even though only one family celebrated this festival (same with Hannukah).

As all the kids in my class do have mums I will be doing a mother's day card. If this wasn't the case, I would reconsider.....
