DS doesn;t seem bothered about having friends

DS who is 5 says he likes walking around at playtime and doesn;t want any friends.

Would you be concerned. I can;t imagine a 5 year old not wanting friends.

He does ask if so and so can come home to play "because he doesn;t play with me at school"

Thanks

I used to get very upset because I knew that my ds aged 4.7 didn't have any friends at school but that was because he is english and the rest of the class are portuguese. He is still learning the language. Since my dd has started at the same school I do feel better as I know that they play together now. He has plenty of friends out of school though. (english speaking ones). I know how you feel though. It is upsetting. Maybe you should talk to the teacher though. He might actually be playing with other children and you just don9t know it.

I have an 8 year old boy who seems to play with other kids at school quite happily, but who never seems bothered about having friends home to play, and is never invited back to play with other boys at their homes.
I spoke to a teacher friend of mine as I was/am very worried too - but she assures me that boys just don't form the same level and kinds of friendships that girls/women do. Speaking to his teacher too would also help put your mind at rest, I'm sure.

It's a worry. My DD says he does play with friends, but whenever I ask him he say's he doesn;t have any friends.

I don't want him to be the odd one out in the playground.

ds is similar to paolosgirl's. He started a new school in September and until half term he didn't seem to play regulary with any other boys. He can also be happy enough in his own company. Then he hooked up with a more docile group but still hasn't wanted or been invited for playdates. tbh the day is so long anyway I'm not that worried.

When I ask my ds who his friends are he says dd and his teacher. Bless his cottons!
