Hi

Is there anyone here doing the Graduate Teacher Program? I'm currently training in a primary school and would love someone to swap notes, advice etc with, and have a good moan when it's needed lol!

Anyone???

We have lots of GTPs, but are a secondary school. I think it's a fantastic scheme (we get most of our new teachers that way, which is great). I'm sorry, cos I'm the boss lady, but I'd still love to swap notes, advice etc. So moan away!

No, but I'm doing a PGCE Primary - couldn't get a GTP, not so many forward thinking schools where I am! Happy to swap notes and advice with definitely, if you're still interested!

Hi Aniles
Yep, just started in september. Don't know about your training place but ours hasn't really given us much guidance i.e. pro-formas for planning, assessment etc. I'm really enjoying it though and think there are so many benefits.
I'm also in a primary school in Yr1 - how about you? Have you sorted your second placement and have you had any assignmnets yet?

Thank you for your replies.

It will great to be able to come here to swap note, share advice etc

Fisil, a lady on another website I use has asked for information regarding applying to Secondary schools to do the GTP. I'm sure she'd really appreciate any information you could give her. Would you mind me passing her email address on to you?

Zoe, what age range are you training to teach? Are you doing much teaching yet?

Mac, your experience sounds very similar to mine. I'm currently in a reception class and should be going to a different school in a few weeks to do a 5 week placement in year 1. I'm absolutely loving it but, like you, I'm not getting much in the way of guidance from either the University or the school. I think it's very much a case of just getting stuck in and doing what we think we need to do in order to fulfil the standards as best we can. By the end of the year at least we'll have plenty of experience and confidence in teaching. I haven't had any assignments and don't think I'll be getting any unless someone is planning on surprising me! What assignments have you got?

We've been given an assignment based upon children's learning - factors that affect learning, looking at research and examples of our own practice. It's 3,000 words, due in March - not too bad really. Just had my first formal observation which went well and am in the process of trying to organise a visit from my link tutor.
Aniles, did you have prior experience of working in schools etc ?

fisil · 31/10/2003 19:40

Not at all. Will you contact me?

Aniles · 02/11/2003 23:26

Hi Mak

3000 words isn't too bad, glad I've not got to do it though

In answer to your question, I qualified as a nursery nurse before doing my degree so I gained experience in schools while training. I was also working as an LSA for two terms before starting the GTP. So, I've had some experience, but not loads.

I?ve just found out that my placement is going to be in year 3, even though I?m only training across foundation and key stage 1. There was a bit of a co*k up and it?s apparently too late to rectify it, but never mind I?m sure I?ll enjoy it. Which key stages are you training to teach? How are getting on filling your portfolio, writing lesson plans etc?

Feel free to contact me through email
