Whole Primary School going to Narnia but .......................

we don't think it is suitable for our ds who is 5. My dh and I saw it at the weekend and as our ds often has nightmares and has not watched any similar films in the cinema so we felt he should not go.

I think we are in the minority and so our ds would be at school on his own as head thinks he should still be in school. I am planning keeping him off for the day.

If I keep him off it will be counted as an unauthorised abscence but I think it is a bit cruel to let him watch all the other children going off without him.

What would you do?

LOL at the relationship between head and Deputy in this school!

Mistymoo · 16/12/2005 19:03

No not a member of staff, just on relief register and offered to help out as they are very busy at the moment.

I am going in - unpaid - to help out. The head has not actually asked me but the deputy told me that was what she expected of me.

I have a dd who is 2.3 and my mum or MIL has been looking after her. I haven't arranged anything for her for Monday as I did not think I would be in.

I would be furious about this. I think it's really bad to choose a PG film (which by definition of the certificate will not be suitable for all children), then not provide an alternative treat for those children whose parents' feel it's unsuitable for. I wouldn't let my nearly 7 year old DD go if her school were doing this as she gets horrendous nightmares. I personally would say that I will send him to school but unless the school provide what you consider to be a suitable alternative, then you will be taking him out of school for the duration of the school trip. And if they give you any hassle I would send a very strongly worded letter to the govenors.

Mistymoo · 16/12/2005 19:08

I can't believe that there are not more parents upset by it to be honest but some that were are now sending their kids. I think there has been a lot of pressure from teachers.

I don't know about writing to the govenors as I do not know if we have any. Is that an English thing? We are in Scotland and I am not sure if it is a bit different here.

BluStocking - the deputy is retiring at the end of spring term. I don't think any of the staff have a lot of respect for the head. She is from a different planet by all acccounts.

My school is taknig ks3/4 to see harry potter next week, but 2 are to stay at school as 1 will NOT go and 1 parent has denied permission (he is 12 BTW)

yeah, planet twathead by the sound of things!

WickedWinterWitch · 17/12/2005 14:03

This absolutely isn't on imo. I don't want my ds to see it until we've finished reading the book although he's older but PG really should mean it's not advised for a whole primary school. As for looking after the 3 kids who aren't going, I think it's a total cheek. Really crap of the school, all of it imo. I'd complain.

tamum · 17/12/2005 14:13

Mistmoo, I think it would be the School Board. They are the closest we get to governors, I think.

maZebraltov · 17/12/2005 15:08

Maybe a dumb question, Mistymoo, but do you have an enhanced disclosure (CRB check)? Are you ok'd to be alone with these children?

Mistymoo · 18/12/2005 14:17

maZebraltov - I have been checked by Disclosure Scotland if that's what you mean.

Well, the day has arrived and my ds is here at home with me and I have not had any phone call from the school.

Presume I will have to wait until tomorrow for the backlash.

Moo - just to add to this, my DD is in reception and I would not allow her to see this film. Think it's wholly unsuitable for younger kids.
