nicest one i had was 3 handprints cut out, then put upside down on card, 2 at bottom, 1 at top to make a xmas tree. then shove a few sparkly things on and star at top. yr2 should be able to cut round handprints i imagine

No glitter - just organised some cards for our Xmas bazaar and one of the teachers decided they should use glitter! You should have seen my table, floor and face afterwards!!!

Get a doily
Cut a sixth segment out

Stick large bit on card with cut out segment facing up

Stick segment on top (point up)

Draw a face above the point

& volia you have an angel

katymac · 05/12/2005 20:52

Cut out 2 christmas trees (green card)

Cut half way up one and half way down the other

Decorate and slide together so it stands up

robbinxmaspud · 05/12/2005 20:56

keep 'em coming. sound marvelous- hate drawing, never let them near felt tips, nothing done on computer.
I like the hand print thing but have no 3d spatial ability- are all handprints the same size.. thatis probably a really dense question but can't viusalise and it sounds like fun.

Toilet rolls (or cut down kitchen roll as toilet rolls are banned)

Wrapped in crepe paper and foil at least twice as wide

Then tie a bit of string/tinsel/ribbon round each end

A cracker

(write on the paper before you roll it up (it's easier)

santabops · 05/12/2005 21:00

all sound a lot easier than the cross sticth candles christmas cards I am currently making wiht year 5.....

Got to finish them on Thursday......

How about stand up ones: have made with year 3 -

fold card in half.
draw xmas tree design so it goes into back half of card. cut out just outline on back of card.

refold card an viola the xmas tree stands up....

Just made some Christmas cards with DD today. We had green triangles stuck onto paper (the tree), a bigshiny star sticker on top, and some tiny shiny stars, etc. stuck onto the trees.

Not sure about stunning (she's only 3!!!) but she enjoyed it and it is all her own work.

robbinxmaspud · 05/12/2005 21:04

Forgot to say have to do table decoarations and party hats as well.. Can't bear doing the same thing so always try and do something new. Must be mad I know but when there are so many good ideas out there.. why not!

Black card
white "hills" made from white paper stuck on

Trees painted on (maybe use a potato or spong print)

katymac · 05/12/2005 21:06

Fold paper in to 6
Cut into a cirle
Cut out shapes

A snowflake

Stick onto red or green card

robbinxmaspud · 05/12/2005 21:10

Should say my fave is of course the xmas pud. Circle of white card, draw wobblyline across it, cover bottom half with pva glue and sprinkle on "pudding mix" - oats, sugar and cinnamon and the odd sultana. Stick holly leaves and berrys on and stick on a piece of card. looks and smell good and not at all religious!

santabops- i like this but is it me or is the cutting out quite tricky? I can't see how to prevent them cutting the whole thing in half!

I,ve just made potato print snowmen and the mums were really impressed at the simplicity and overall effect. Dead easy to organise aswell.
Potato halves one larger than the other (large one for bottom of snowman) I cut out hats in different shapes and sizes from thick paper. Used black circle stickers for buttons and eyes. Rough carrot shaped noses from vivelle or orange paper. Then you could draw on stick arms (line with three prongs) with a black marker) you might even let the kids do this. Put onto blue, purple, black red or green card and use glitter glue pens to spot stars in the sky. Good fun and easy to do.

robbinxmaspud · 05/12/2005 21:23

Thanks for so many ace ideas. My floor is covered with bits of paper and I feel the need to watch celebrity now. I am going to either do jenthehen's snow men or foil triangles xmas trees decorated on reverse with biro so that it looks like embossing and stuck on torn square of black sugar paper mounted on another colour. Will do the xmas trees that stand up as table decortions for xmas party.
Anybody fancy doing my planning for next term whilst you are all feeling so helpful.....?
It show what nice people teachers really are.. despite what some of these threads would lead you to believe!

If planning were the only consideration I would have 12 kids by now. enjoy your maternity leave and never work full time! 2 days is ample

Have to confess I'm not teaching at present I made these voluntarily with my 4yr olds preschool - I also have a 18mnth old dd and have no idea how you all manage homelife, school runs, planning, prep and marking alongside your day jobs. I taught for 7 yrs before the kids so I know how busy you must be and am more than happy to give a few ideas that help to make your life a bit easier. Thread hi-jacking now, but how do you organise getting your own kids to school when you are working yourselves? I feel I must return at some point but my dh has early starts and late finishes so could not rely on him for any school runs. Just curious as I can't really justify being a SAHM for ever.

katymac · 05/12/2005 21:46

Jenthehen - you should get a lovely childminder like me

I am not a teacher - I am a carer (the education just happens)

jenthehen · 05/12/2005 22:21

Thanks Katymac I must admit I've never considered childminders I'e only really thought of nannys or nurseries but I will do a search to see if there are any local childminders.
