How much did you Christmas Fayre make and what were the big earners?

We had our Xmas Fayre on Saturday and made £2,700, the most ever in fact, our school is has about 250 kids and the fayre takes place only in the hall and a small room off where Father Christmas and a few more stalls are. Wondering what other schools made and what we could do to better it next year. The big raffle was the biggest earner. I think it made almost £1,000, the Pot of Gold did well with the school and the lucky winner getting £66.00 each. The reindeer food did well as well selling 90 bags, would be interested to hear how someone else sold too.

Our biggest earning stall was chocolate tombola at over £400.

Yours sounds such a lot for a school of only £250 - are they all loaded?!

Gobbledigook · 29/11/2005 14:45

250 kids not £250!

pepsi · 29/11/2005 14:51

There were loads of people there, but I wouldnt say the parents were rich...or posh. There was a huge amount of effort put into it though. The chocolate tombola sounds interesting....please tell me more.

Dead easy - just use raffle tickets to label up all the chocolate prizes with tickets ending in '0' or '5'. Obviously put all tickets in the tombola. It was 30p for one ticket or £1 for 4. Some of the boys were spending £4 and £5 just to win a mars bar! Some of the prizes were big boxes of chocs and selection boxes and some were as small as a tube of smarties.

We had a big tray of small chocs as consolation prizes for children that didn't win anything.

I worked the first half hour on the stall and it was manic!

Gobbledigook · 29/11/2005 14:55

We didn't have a big raffle so if you take off that with your £1000 from it, our school made about the same as yours. £1700 ish I think (but then we get extra from some of the parents' companies that match what we earn on certain stalls).

LadySherlockofLGJ · 29/11/2005 15:02

We made £3,800.

The biggest earners were:

Secret Santa

Burgers and Sausages

And my stall which was a new departure for the school, we sold reindeer food 50p and wooden windchime blanks which the children could decorate at home £1, and also little bags with heavy duty paper baubles with two stickers and a gel pen £1

We made £3,300. Biggest earners were food (turkey rolls & mulled wine) and raffle - raffled hampers made up from donations. My stall, smellies, also raised over £200 We do 'weeks' before the fair, so we have 'smellie week' where people bring in donations of bubble bath etc. We then package it up in cellophane & bows, and sell it. We also make a lot on the bottle tombola. The children have a non-uniform day, and bring in a donation of a bottle, can be wine (hopefully) but anything in a bottle will do, had a few tomato ketchups - always good for a laugh.
Chocolate tombola sounds good though, may suggest that next year.

did the reindeer food go down well....how much did you make on that and how much did it cost to make. I bought a potato sack full of bird feed for £9.00 but the glitter cost me £12.00....must source cheaper glitter if I do it again.

pepsi - my dd's school asked for donations to make the reindeer food out of a list of oats, bird seet, and glitter, so it didn't cost the school much at all!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 29/11/2005 16:47

Blimey Pepsi how much food can eight reindeer eat ??

I used 1.5 kg bag of porridge and two tubs of glitter, we put it in small ziploc bags and charged 50p.

Furball · 29/11/2005 17:04

We used sugar in ours instead of glitter - more 'friendly'

LadySherlockofLGJ · 29/11/2005 17:20

Suitably crushed.

leave some out for reindeers on Christmas Eve of course!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 29/11/2005 17:44

Sprinkle this on to your garden on Christmas Eve.
The glitter sparkling in the moonlight and the smell of fresh oats will guide Santa's reindeer to your home.

northerner · 29/11/2005 17:44

Leave it out where?! On your fire place, in your back garden, on your roof? WHERE? How come I've never heard of this before.

They get carrots in my neck of the woods

northerner · 29/11/2005 17:45

Oh, I see.

Bloody hell, another thing to add to my to do list.

Mae1 · 06/12/2005 21:17

We made £1600 - biggets earner being chocolate tombola. Th eschool had a non uniform day where the kids brought in some form of chocolate rather than money. We used it on the tombola stall and as prizes for other games being run on the night.
Pepsi - what was the Pot of Gold?? I'm interested for next year!!

ImdreadinganAUTIExmas · 07/12/2005 10:51

We made £2400 ish (can't remember, but over £2000). We have just over 100 kids. It's an SLD/PMLD school though and I think people get very attached to it! (also goes from age 3-19 and I think lots of old families stay in touch). No idea what the biggest earners were, everything was very cheap though. The raffles were all donated so maybe that. They also sold xmas cards designed by some of the children. A pack of 4 was a £1 and I know they were very popular.
