says it all in the title really.

DS1 has just had his CAT results and I dont understand them???

The report indicates that he has a 83% probability of getting 5 A*-C GCSE grades.

Im really confused though because in his French teachers report she says he is an A* pupil achieving well above the average, yet the CAT report indicates he will get a D????? He is very fluent and excels within this subject...so why the discrepency?? He is really upset because he wants to take all languages and has it in his head that he will get a D and will fail?????

Anyone know of any websites that I can use to try and decipher the CAT profile???

Is he Yr7?

My DD did quite well at CATS but they are verbal/nonp-verbal reasoning & NOT testing in specific subjects. She has never shone in these tests but is always top of class in all subjects.

Those CAT results have haunted us ever since. She was predicted level 6,6,7 for Yr9 SATS and got 7,7,8, (Top of yr in MAths & English) & standard report said "DD performed significantly better in SATS than predicted by CATS".

NB - languages are her best & fav subjects, predicted A/A*, so don't worry.

if they're verbal reasoning tests, then I think it means that your ds doesn't have a natural aptitude for languages, in which case the fact that he is doing really well is a credit to him - means he's got where he is by hard work.

teachers usually know more than a test anyway - it's one of the reasons they brought in continual assessment.

Verbal reasoning was Average but Quantitative was Above average and Non-Verbal, Very High.

He is really worrying about this report because he feels he should have done better with his French...but if he is getting A+ for all class and homework, how can he do better???

I think I will go in a see his mentor because I dont want him to think he is failing...he might just give up because he thinks he isnt any good...and he is!

More blooming stats and figures...poor kids are under so much presuure to achieve arent they? How on earth teachers have any time to teach when they have reports and tests like this to do is beyond me

If he is getting A+ for homework he CANNOT do better. DD was in tears over her results! I explained to her what SP said, that I was even more proud of her as these tests showed it was more hard slog from her to learn work etc than natural ability.

One boy in her yr got 100% in CATS!!!! He is v.v. bright but doesn't work v.hard & is always being told "could do better", used to be top of class at primary but can't be bothered to work now! He was predicted higher than achieved for YR9 SATS.
