Advice on grommets, behaviour and hearing

My DS has been having problems since being in yr1.

We were told before he started school that his grommets for glue ear had fallen out and his last hearng test was fine.

BUT - last weekend we found a grommet in his ear!!!

He also now has an ear infection and more antibiotics. Can this come back again and again.we thought his hearing problems had gone - and kept telling the teacher it wasn;t his hearing.

The Dr has referred him for another hearing test but it's now he needs it not when his infection has cleared up.

Wednesday the behavioural support team are coming to observe him for an hour.

oh poor you!

can you speak yto the school?

IMO (and i am no expert) i think they are rushing ahead too fast with the behavioural issue approach.

from this and your previous posts there seem to be 2 issues. one, that he has been split up from his twin, and two, the hearing.

surely it makes sense to fix those 2 things before they start labelling him and getting behavioural support people in?

have they even tried putting the twins together to see if his behaviour improves? I would have thought that would be the first thing to happen tbh.. you try all the simplest things and THEN go onto more serious issues.

and obviously if his hearing hasn't been 100% that could be a cause too

The went straight for the behavioural stuff.

This worries me because I wonder if they see something we don;t.

When I had the meeting with the SEnco to call in behavioural support , she was shocked to find out he was a twin!

We will see what happens on Wednesday.

I don;t know what they'll do if he behaves perfectly in the hour that they're there!

i think that's really odd... although, as i say, i am certainly no expert on the matter.

i would have imagined they would trial him in the same class as his twin, make sure they are taking his hearing into account and if he is still playing up after that, THEN call in behavioural people.

it all seems rather poor really - first with the hearing test then with the school.

think you need to make regular trips to speak to teacher if you can.

Yes custardo,

Looking back i don;t know if i'mmore angry with the doctors or myself for not getting him checked again.

Poor soul. Today he got 7/8 stickers. Lost one for fidgeting in assembly.

I think i will ring audiology and see if they can get him in quick. Waiting 3-6months fills me with dread.

i did that - i rang audiology becuase she hadn't been seen for a while and i thought how easy it must be to just fuck up administration wise - and lets face it its much lieka conveyor belt - although they are really nice and do what they think is right at the time - they are not invested in your child particularly.
