That woman seems to have a real problem with the afct that I know what upsets DS1. He's been in her class since september and it's been one thing after another.
Maybe it's just a personality clash but My god...that woman is AWFUL!!!

The next saga is as follows.....
DS bought homework home last Tuesday, across the top it said "return BY tuesady 15th Nov". He did the work straight away that night and took it in the next day(wednesday) she told him to take it home again as it too early/she didn't need it yet. It said BY the 15th november so to me that means any day up til then but no later.
Anyway on the way home his water bottle leaked and it got ruined and his homework diary also has ink spodges all over it. He was really pleased with his work and that he'd sent it in straight away so was upset that it was ruined.

So, today I send another note in ( she's already told him no more notes!!!) saying the water bottle leaked, he was upset, it being sent home again blah blah blah. DH read it and it wasn't shirty(although the 5 I wrote before that one were).

In his homework diary there is anotye saying "XXXXX was told to bring his HW in with his diary" errrrrr if he didn't have the diary why the fuck is that covered in ink too????

The red mist decended and I went hunting for her. I asked quite calmly why she had put this note when quite cl;early he did have the diary and she said "well he gave my just the HW, he didn't say he had the diary"
Couldn't you have asked him, you stupid woman???

I then said "I'm not sure if it's personality clash but really seem to have a ploblem with me"
she said "oh of course I haven't" as I walked away.

I was going to wait until we left to point out how awful she is but I went straight around to reception and saw the deputy head then and told him everything.

TBH, I take in work on a set day, as it is better to mark work all togehter....it makes your comments more fair if you do the marking in one go. I also have a rota for taking work home to mark, so I don't get weighed down (30 books can weigh a bit! ). so I mark Y 7 on a monda, Y 9 tuesday etc, It also keeps me more organised and reduces the chances of work getting mislayed

Same here Malory - I had a box under my desk and as long as the h/work books were in there by Friday, it didn't bother me when they were handed in.

It's not like she has to mark it immediately anyway is it!!

Sounds very odd to me!!!

No not rocket science![wink

If a child has taken the effort to do the h/work early and hand it in early, don't you think it's a bit disheartening to say to them, 'I don't want it now - bring it back next Tuesday'.

JonesTheSteam · 15/11/2005 16:47

mb - I think it's different at secondary level, but primary school teachers only have one set of h/work books to mark, not a set for each class.

LadyTophamHatt · 15/11/2005 16:47

Jones, I did actually say to the depty that I thought a teacher was meant to encourage a pupil not cast them aside.

True, I'd be hemmed in by all the boxes!

charliecat · 15/11/2005 16:50

My dds teacher reject homework that they have sat down to do and it really annoys me. They cant understand whay she cant just take it now that theyve done it either...

LadyTophamHatt · 15/11/2005 16:55

Of course, she'll probably make Ds's life amisery from now on.

I will jump for joy when we finally move.

Does he have to have his h/work diary signed to say the work's been handed in?

LadyTophamHatt · 15/11/2005 16:59

The diary just has the "X was told to bring the HW in with the diary" note.
So she has taken it.

What I mean is does she have to sign his homework diary every week to say that she has received his homework.

Just seems a bit extreme to me when he's only 6 - I associate h/work diaries with secondary schools, when children have lots of different h/work for different subjects, due in on different dates.

(DD is only in reception, and has h/work once a week so don't know if they do this further up her school.)

LadyTophamHatt · 15/11/2005 17:06

It's called an Impact Diary (not sure why Impact though), it comes home every week with maths homework. It has little faces in it that thay have to circle to say whether it was fun(smily face) hard(puzzled face) etc etc, we then write acomment atthe end to say whether he enjoyed it, struggled with it etc etc etc
He has a separte one for his reading book.

LadyTophamHatt · 15/11/2005 17:08

She doesn't comment on good/bad work in eather his math or reading diray, just her initials are signed.

JonesTheSteam · 15/11/2005 17:11

Ok I see now!! Have never head of an impact diary either.

My DD has a reading record book where both the teacher and I write comments on how she is doing with the books that are sent home and the keywords she is currently learning.

LadyTophamHatt · 15/11/2005 18:19

Now..I think it gets even worse.

I asked Ds what she said today and apparently she said something along the lines of "it's beacuse you didn't have your impact diary" ina shouty voice, while they were all sitting on the carpet.

So, to humiliate your 6 year old send them to Ds1's class.

(BTW, I'm not te only mum ho thinks badly of her)
