Schools in Oxfordshire, Wallingford or nearby towns?

I'm thinking of moving from London to Oxfordshire with DS, who's due to start primary school this september and DD a baby. I want to find out what areas are best for primary and secondary schools as I don't really want to have to move again for secondary schools. Looking to move next year so I'll be trying to get a place for DS in yr1. I've seen previous info on MN about St. Nicholas school in Wallingford - are there any other good schools or just that one cos I need an area with more than one good school as I'll be looking for a child leaving a school to get a place in Yr1. Does anyone know what the secondary schools are like in Wallingford? My children are baptised Catholic and we go to Church so I'd be open to an RC or CofE school too. Does anyone have info on Abingdon schools or any other areas in Oxfordshire nearer to London rather than further away. Thank you!

Have you thought of Chipping Norton? Great catholic primary and an excellent secondary school. Close to Charlbury and Kingham railway stations which are on the main London trainline. Also, getting on this far up the line means you are much more likely to get a seat in the morning. Kingham also has an excellent primary school, lots of children from there go on to The Cotswold School which is also good. Many parents who live in this area work in London.

Goring is nice, but there are quite a lot of so-so areas like most large villages, and last weekend there was a large group of local yoofs drinking, again, on the lawn across Miller of Mansfield Angry.
We have friends who moved away from Goring because they found it not to be small and friendly enough to be a proper village, yet way too small to have a proper buzz, whatever that might be. If we would move in this area(SE) again, we would definitely go for either Whitchurch or Henley.

This has been really fantastic thank you all so much, will check out chipping north too - my DH has now said what about Fleet - he has a friend there who says it's good and the houses prices we can afford, but when I ask what are the schools like DH says - I don't know, ask your MN mates! So maybe I need to start another thread about Fleet! Thank you

I have friends in Fleet - theres some good schools, but apparently terribly over subscribed so people are being allocated ones miles away. They live in Elvetham Heath which is pretty good as these developments go as it has a pub/supermarket/church/school/nursery

My friend has moved from a village primary in a gammer school catchment area to Wallingford where her children go to the infant school Fir tree and the corresponding junior school. They are lovely happy go lucky children, the mum is pleased that there is no competitive grammer nonsense (even though the kids may well have been bright enough to get in) and they are doing really well and it seems to be a far more relaxed atmosphere with fewer "hovering" parents. Wallingford looks like a fab town with a lot for the kids but even more for the parents!

Don't tell everyone...they'll all want to live here!

HI Oxford has some really good primary schools especially St Philip and St James (know locally as Phil and Jim) - children then go on to Cherwell - one of the best secondary schools in the country - students going on to major universities including Oxford and Cambridge. Good luck.

Hi I just joined Mumsnet and saw your old message about moving to the area...did you make it and where did you move to in the end?
I am just waiting to hear if my 9 year old girl will be accepted at Whitchurch...we are moving to Pangbourne from Dorset and know no-one!
Hope you get this
