Went to NUT meeting at school yesterday re pension reform. Cannot see myself teaching until 68 and who wants their kids taught by oldies not wanting to be there.

mrz I am going to ignore you now, you are just looking for a fight.

Cain · 29/05/2011 19:57

I watch the news and saw nothing of this conference - where is the publicity?

Do the unions not speak to the press?

Grockle · 29/05/2011 20:00

I think you might be the one looking for a fight, Cain. You did say you were going to go and watch Come Dine with Me yet you are still here Confused

Cain no one is trying to convince you why should we? You're not a teacher so convincing you would serve no purpose just as failing to convince you is in your words irrelevant

That is actually quite misguided. If you don't have the pubilc on your side you are on a hiding to nothing. David Cameron will wipe the floor with you and it will not even register with the majority of the electorate.

Because people keep directing posts at me...?

Feenie · 29/05/2011 20:02

That bit made me laugh. There's mrz discussing calmly and politely, while Cain chucks toys out of her pram swearing - but it's mrz that's looking for a fight! Grin

Cain · 29/05/2011 20:06

Be careful Feenie, I might suggest you continue to hold your breath and leave you worried about death wishes again.

mrz · 29/05/2011 20:07

Cain the conference took place in Liverpool on the April 18th - 20th and was reported by the BBC and other news sources

the next conference were in Harrogate and Glasgow April 22-25th
again widely reported in the media

Feenie · 29/05/2011 20:11

Yes, that's exactly how you put it, Cain. Very selective memory you have there Wink

Cain · 29/05/2011 20:11

So is that everything? A one day march 3 months ago and a conference that wasn't publicised?

You need to do more, Donki you asked me what I think you should do... a hell of a lot more.

Now the beer soaked stroppies have turned up I am going to leave you to it. I have little patience with silly girls.

Feenie · 29/05/2011 20:12

Rofl Grin

Donki · 29/05/2011 20:19

I saw the reports Cain

In fact the NAHT conference made the headlines in the BBC and some newspapers because they were voting for strike action for the first time in a very long time.....

gordongrumblebum · 29/05/2011 20:29

I have to say that I agree with Cain. The union press machine should have rolled into action by now - big time.

At an ATL meeting I suggested that we hold a petition. I was told (very smugly) that we had aleady had one and that it was delivered to the government with 15000 signatures - wowee!

That petition should have been sent to every union rep in the country, in every school, and reps should have been contacted by union officials to make sure we badgered all members to sign it. As it is, it passed me by - and it shouldn't have done.

I have no faith in the competancy of the unions for dealing with the press, modern politicians who thrive on sound-bites, and 24h rolling news. Union officials seem to be dinosaurs, nostalgic for the 1970s, who enjoy making militant speeches which are often totally irrelevant to the cause.

Yes, I agree absolutely - 100% - with all the complaints about pension changes, but I would like to have some confidence that my union was taking the correct actions.

Cain · 29/05/2011 20:29

Ok, I was out of the country for a while in March/April, honestly it didn't register loudly for me, I missed it but what did the unions do with that publicity? Perhaps they need to take a leaf out of the books of the likes of Misses Price and Katona.
If DC thinks he can sweep it under the carpet he will. You should make sure he can't.

Please, don't strike. Its not constructive and if you play your last card you have nothing left in your hand.

I know there is a film starting at 9 so please don't direct any more posts at me or I will be compelled to respond.

fivecandles · 29/05/2011 20:33

Cain, out of interest are you fundamentally opposed to all strikes or just all teachers strikes?

mrz · 29/05/2011 20:34

Perhaps you missed the news and didn't read your newspaper that week/fortnight Cain ...

Perhaps we should have the closed schools and gone to Downing Street

fivecandles · 29/05/2011 20:39

The idea that teachers' unions should learn from Kerry Katona and Katie Price is an interesting thought. What should they learn? Confused

Cain · 29/05/2011 20:41

Not fundamentally opposed, no. I feel very strongly (I think you get that) that a teachers strike will impact those who have no control/impact on the issue at hand. As such, in my opinion, it is very wrong.
Otherwise, I would construct an opinion based on the circumstances.

Cain · 29/05/2011 20:42

mrz you really are very obtuse.

Cain · 29/05/2011 20:44

The art of publicity and marketing. You want to add weight to your arguments, use publicity.

mrz · 29/05/2011 20:47

I admire you too Cain Smile

Cain · 29/05/2011 20:51

mrz the vast majority of your posts have no substantial contribution to the discussion, do you really care about your pension or do you just want to take a pop?

Why don't you do something constructive?

Donki · 29/05/2011 20:51

Ok Cain and GGB
Publicity
There is something for teachers to build on.
We have two weeks.....

mrz · 29/05/2011 20:56

and I thought your posts were so enlightened Cain Smile

actually I'm reading a book but I'm hanging on your every word never fear!
