Any other supply teachers watching their daily rate being chipped away?

With all of the agencies undercutting each other and the daily supply rate from the LEA being so massively undercut that schools simply won't pay it anymore, my daily rate is being eroded slowly.

It is thoroughly depressing. I cannot haggle, there are too many of us out there competing for the work.

I have just secured a six week supply cover at a local school. I approached the head about this work. My agency has offered me five pounds a day LESS than I normally get. I am sure this is so that they can bump me up to my normal rate and make it sound like they are doing me a favour. I will argue the case but I don't hold any of the cards and I need the work Sad

I am not that impressed at having all the responsibilies of a class teaching at only a normal supply rate.

try having those responsibilities when you are on an assistants salary and get £5 extra for providing PPA cover!

do you have to plan for that chillistars? Does it last for more than one day?

it truly sucks

No, the teachers plan for it but it is regular afternoons.
I do have to plan for intervention groups - of which I do 8 a week.
I love it though.

Yup, I had two pounds chiselled off my daily rate only yesterday...yes it sucks, yes we have no choice because of the need to work...crap,crap,crap!

I only work in 1 school - was 2 but the other one can only afford to use the agency I briefly worked for (they were charging the school 40% more than they paid me) as they have slashed their rates so much. I know they would prefer to use the couple of regular tried and tested people they used before.

I too have a 6/7 week stint coming up at my full LEA rate - the school wants someone the children know. I won't get PPA time - don't know if this is normal - but to be fair quite a bit of the planning is already done for me.

This year there has definitely been less work around.

Well, come here to Scotland, as from August, we will have a 54% (approx) pay cut for first five days of any supply. So will long term supply positions exist? I think not. Will not be carrying on, I don't think, am totally demoralised already, after working almost full time this academic year in s.t. supply, and enjoying it again for first time in years.Sad.
(not competative sadding by the way, it's crap for us all.)

I have given up on daily supply as a job - it is no longer a viable option in secondary in my area.
