How much would you expect to pay for such an excursion? Back in the day we went to Hexham for £15 for 5 days and got boots, coats and bags provided. DS been invited on a 2 night so short of 3 days trip .. guess how much? In fact aibu Grin thinking £180 is a bit much?

A good part of that will be travel costs

hotandhappy · 06/05/2011 20:36

2 hours away? Shock in fact its 1hr and a half - perhaps i should offer to take a few in my car instead?

The cost of transport for school visits is horrendous certainly a few hundred for 2 hours away

maggotts · 06/05/2011 22:06

Sounds too much even with travel. Year 4 can go before (or even during) SATS when prices are cheaper. What time of year is this trip? How many children? (Transport obvioulsy works out more per head if a small group.)

I teach yr 4. The main costs will be the accommodation and the activities at the venue. The coach won't cost too much. Probably about £15 per head. If you want a breakdown of the costs for the trip, ask the teacher.

32 ish this time next year - they are guaging interest now.

What will it cover: travel, food, accommodation, activities and specialist instructor time?

Can you ask for a breakdown?

CarGirl · 06/05/2011 22:32

£180 for 2 nights is cheap, it's £180 for 1 night and 2 days for our school yr3 trip.

hotandhappy · 06/05/2011 22:43

perhaps it is cheap perhaps im behind the times - like dh said all 4 off us could go in a premier in for 2 nights have a slap up breakfast and a nice day out at a theme park for that!

ours is about that for 1 night 2 days

CarGirl · 06/05/2011 22:46

The children that don't go get to go on a daytrip instead for £15 and tbh I think they got more out of that, dd2 went on the away trip and said it was boring, dd3 went on the day trip and had a fantastic time - dd4 will be going on the day trip! Ours was some sort of field trip rather than outdoor activities.

It's hard as we don't go away on holiday it's a rare opportunity for them to go away.

£180 doesn't seem to bad to me:

Day 1 Travel £15 Lunch £4 Dinner £5 Accommodation £20 Activity (pm) £15 (eve) £10

Day 2 Breakfast £4 Lunch £4 Dinner £5 Accommodation £20 Activity (am) £15 (pm) £15 (eve) £10

Day 2 Breakfast £4 Lunch £4 Activity (am) £15 Travel £15

Total £180

pointythings · 07/05/2011 20:50

I paid £145 for DD1 to go three days, two nights this time last year, but fuel prices have shot up so much I'd have to say that £180 is not unreasonable now. Paid £200 for DD1 to go on a 4 day, 3 night trip last October and thought that was a bargain, got £7 back as they had overestimated the cost (and didn't keep the money for the school Smile. Lots of activities on both trips, only needed to provide packed lunch outbound on first day.
