Working as a supply teacher after ten years out of the profession?

is it possible? I only worked for two years before having dd1. What could I do to maximise my chances - would a return to teaching course be a good idea?

I taught MFL at secondary.

A course sounds ideal. Speak to someone in management at one of your local schools to ask what they look for?
If you are free during the day what about arranging to go in to shadow a ML teacher for a few days? But I think most places/teaching colleges do a return to teaching course. You might want to see what the situation is for jobs in supply in your area, to see if you'll get enough work.

I'd definitely recommend getting on a couple of agencies' books, and include cover supervisor, TA and anything else you're willing to take on to get your confidence back. I spent 12 years in SEN and went back to mainstream 18 months ago, spent the first couple of weeks doing cover supervision (where you're not expected to be a teacher, as such) and absolutely had a ball, then felt happy enough to hit my own specialism and go for more hours. It's only confidence, I promise you :)
