I have 2 ds's infant aged. They were taken out of school for an overseas family wedding 2 years ago. At the time we originally thought absence would be approved but it wasn't. Now we had hoped to go away this week as it would mean dh would only need to take 3 days annual leave. Didn't as we realised children would miss 2 days of school. Just wondering how seriously others take missing 2 days of school. Especially as best friend advised me to do it and she is a school governor.

Why was it refused before?

I have taken my son out of school for a week every year [he is 9] no probs at all.

2 days is nothin maybe take some bedtime reading if you want to to.

Well, it won't be approved, but that shouldn't stop you going ahead anyway.

Yes last time it was refused. Therefore, in theory I could be fined if I do it again. Although, I haven't been issued with a penalty notice. Have not arranged anything now as I was concerned but starting to wish I had.

Refused as EWO have created a joint agreement with local schools basically preventing Head Teacher for approving any absense unless exceptional ie Armed Forces or bereavement

Before you get fined you will get a letter stating that education welfare are monitoring the absences and will talk to you if necessary, but attendance has to go below 80% or thereabouts, which is more than 3 weeks off school in total per academic year.

I hope you have gone on holiday!

I can't believe anyone still takes their children out of school during term-time, even for a couple of days. There are more than enough holidays to take advantage of without taking more, and it sends the wrong message about the value of education and its priority. Surely 13 weeks holiday is enough to be going on with.
