11+ and going away in Christmas holidays

Dd1 is going into Year 6 this September and we are looking at secondary schools. There are a few girls private schools round here that we like so will probably enter dd for their entrance exams.

The exams are mostly in Jan (apart from the state grammar school exam which is Nov). Dh and I have been thinking about us all going away for a bit of winter sun over the Christmas holidays but I am wondering how this will affect dd's revision/practice papers.

Has anyone gone away at this time with 11+ exams looming? Did they take any work with them? I can't decide if having a break will be good for dd or if she should be doing as much as possible. Or should we not have the holiday this year?

Go on holiday and let her relax!

Mine only took the November paper but we let them relax in the October Half Term. You should only need a few practice papers in late December if the exam is in November?

go on holiday and relax what she doesn't know in late December she won't know in January ( actually it really is about understanding and if it is just crammed as short term memory she won't cope long term anyway)

We decided against going away at Christmas in your situation. Mostly because we were worried about jet lag and the exams which for us started on 4th Jan. We went in February instead. Just after the results were out and it was great.

We have just gone through this and there is no way we would have gone away this Christmas. DS needed to rest up, relax... and revise. Lots of the first two and a bit of the latter.

My DS had his 11+ in September and we went away in August. We did no revision while away and it didn't do him any harm.

It really depends how competitive the exams are.
For example, schools higher up in the league tables will be harder to get into.
How good is your plan b
