Has anyone had an experience of winning an appeal or changing a decision after a child has not been given a place at the same school as their siblings? DD due to start primary in sept but out of catchment sibling so have been given random school which i dont want!

Sorry, have no experience to offer, but are you going to appeal?

IIRC it goes:

Siblings within catchment
others within catchment
Siblings outside catchment
others outside of catchment.

Did you used to live within the catchment area when your DC1 started there?

JarethTheGoblinKing - There is no universal rule as to how admission criteria are organised. They are as you describe for some schools but for many they are not. Indeed, some schools do not give any priority to siblings at all.

slktck - Do you think they have made a mistake? What is the admission number for this school? If this is an infant class size case your appeal should only succeed if the LA has made a mistake. However, if this is not an infant class size case you have a better chance.

What year is your other dc in?

This can have a bearing too, I believe.

It can. For the older sibling to count they must not be in the final year at primary school.
