If your child has epilepsy or a related neurological condition, you might want to consider getting some further information about St Peirs School and Further Education College which are both a part of the National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy.

Students can attend on either a day or residential basis, depending on their needs.

The website can be found here; www.ncype.org.uk. It also has a very good Facebook page. Just search for National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy.

Surely a child with epilespy can attend a mainstream school unless they have learning difficulties. Surely inclusion is better for a child without learning difficulites. Even children with major physical disablities do well with inclusion.

Many special schools have a lot of experience of looking after children with epilepsy as well as meeting a child's complex needs.

Why would you need a school that specialises in epilepsy?

Reallytired - sorry, but you obviously haven't a clue about the kids that attend this school. They either have extreme issues with epilepsy or epilepsy along with a host of other issues. My friend visited it recently with regards to her son who has severe developmental delay and severe epilepsy. Invariably his fits (and he has them almost daily) require medical intervention if not hospitalisation. He cannot be educated in the mainstream and it is for kids like him that this type of school exists. It is one of the few establishments that could cater to his educational and health needs without his having to be whisked off to hospital every other day.
