Reversing letters and not leaving spaces between words

My DS (5) will often write a sentence without leaving spaces or will spell a word such as ?fun? fn. Are there any engaging activities that we could do together? Are there any good online games or perhaps pen and paper games? I find it difficult to explain why some words are not spelt as they sound so I would be very grateful for your tips.

Perfectly normal and acceptable for a 5 year old

My dd wrote 30% of her letters backwards until year 2 and often left random spaces between letters and words which made understanding some of her writing quite difficult! She also had a problem with holding her pen/pencil properly. We just left it to progress naturally and it stopped in due course with natural practice and progress. She ended up excelling at English and aceing her GCSE and A-Levels in it with no problems, so I don't think it's a cause for concern.

Totally normal, don't worry. I don't think you have to do anything.

Thank you

Totally normal.

My DS1 is 5.8 (year 1). He still reverses a lot of letters when printing, but this is ironing itself out now that they are learning to join up. They are also learning how to make 'finger spaces' (using a finger as guide to where to start the next word).

'Totally normal'

Thank God! OP I could have written your post word for word.

I'm not sure if this will help anyone but I have got DS to teach his teddy to write. Teddy does his letters the wrong way round and DS is the teacher who has to put things right. Seems to be working.

Obviously teddy does not have to worry about spelling tests Wink

That is normal for a 5 year old
