went to DS parents evening last night and it was a very positive experience, I'm so impressed by his teachers.

Basically he is quiet in class, and is very reluctant, and at times refusing to work, but when they praise him etc he works very well. They said he looks sad, as if he has the weight of the world on his shoulders, but they see him outside and he's bright and bubbly, they said he is obviously a bright child, but wont "give". He responds to positive praise, but understandably they can't be constantly praising and encouraging him with all of the other children they have to look after.

He's in year 1 and is 5 - our target are to help him work more independently at literacy and numeracy (basically without having to be cajoled into doing everything), be able to count up to 20 in mulitples of 2, to be able to match the pairs that add up to 10 without using his fingers, ie 3+7, 5+5 etc.

I've left a message for Catflap on another thread for advice onthe phonics, but any other advice would be gratefully received - he learns games quickly and also songs/rhymes - but I can't think of any that go up to 20 n mulitples of two !

My son is in yr 1 and loves dot to dots. I did a search the other day for dot to dot for him and found one with dot to dots in multiples of 2's, 4's right up to 25's!

Don't have the link but search for dot to dot in google.
