God so did I. We are all perverts.

No my dd is only 1 but don't think I will be HE mum

singingmum · 11/09/2003 17:32

Jimjams Hope you understood.
Are you seriously thinking about it and if so how old are your children?
I've been Home Educating for 6yrs and it's hard but well worth it.

Sorry singingmum for being silly.

You may find this thread useful, lots of discussion on HE

CountessDracula · 11/09/2003 17:39

And this one seems even more relevant

singingmum · 11/09/2003 17:49

Thanks.I don't mind silliness countessdracula.
It's a bit weird using mumsnet I've joined conversations but found it strange starting one.
Am silly about things like this quite often.

Yep - serioulsy thinking about it- for ds1 at least. He's 4 and autistic. We're giving mainstream school a go, and as we've been lucky with the school I expect it to work for reception and year 1 at least. I may try and flexi school though- it depends how it goes- he's starting with flexi school. He starts 2 mornings a week in a couple of weeks time. After that I don't know. There may not be a school for him. At one stage we thought he wouldn't get a place in this school and we were going to HE from the start, so I'm a memeber of the HE SEN groups (and used to read a lot of muddlepuddle until I passed out under the weight of emails).

There are other Hedders on mumsnet. We're in the SW.

singingmum · 11/09/2003 17:57

What's SW sorry am lousy with abbreviations.
My sons HE because at three a teacher told us he was backwards and told him that 3yr olds shouldn't read or write he could do both.I had told him that teachers were to be trusted and it took 3 yrs to get him to read and write properly again and I still have trouble with writing as he doesn't like it.He's susspected to have ADHD,dyslexia and dyspraxia all in smallish doses except the ADHD.My daughter although 3 doesn't read or write she's more active and would rather take something apart to see how it works than sit for 1/2 an hour and write although starting now to show interest more.He is really rewarding and frustrating as it costs money but if your cheeky you find some places will give school and teacher discounts which helps.I was a member of HEAS but have to rejoin now am also going to join education otherwise.
Admit to finding mumsnet a godsend as means I can let of steam if things get a bit to frustrating.

sorry singingmum- yep SW is south-west...... I was being lazy (as usual).

There are some HE groups online. UK -HE which is a bit political at timee and a special needs one which has quite a few children with dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD. it's friendly. Also friendly is muddlepuddle- but lots of emails!

Oakmaiden · 15/09/2003 09:20

I did HE until recently - but we are giving school a go at the moment for a variety of reasons (mostly due to my own not so brilliant health currently, leading to a severe lack of patience on my part). I am on the South coast, so not much use to you I think! But Hi anyway!

singingmum · 17/09/2003 13:09

Hi
I also use the cgp books excellent.I think that if used in school then education would be better. Can't understand why some schools only reccomend them as supplements to school books.Prob why I still HE.
Sorry about the sw thing.
Does anyone find that their little monsters are at diff levels. My son is doing some subjects at ks2 and 3 but is also doing GCSE in others. My biggest prob is that he wants to learn so many subjects and sometimes will only do 1or 2 a day as he won't stop and other days it's a nightmare to get him to do any lessons whatsoever. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this level I would be so grateful.I've tried bribes and they just don't work after a while as he's sees what I'm doing and tries to get even more.

RobinW
CGP will give all HEers school prices. If you order on internet then do so by going to the school ordering area and where it says school name put Home Educator and then put order in as normal. If you phone orders or send by snail mail then just phone and ask them and they give you the school prices.I now buy about 20 books at a time and spend only about £25-£30.It really is one hell of a saving. You do have to be really cheeky when buying books and stationary although I've found baker ross handy but they don't do discount.Hope education,Philip and tacey and NES arnold have some good stuff and you only pay school prices.
On the subject of cash for HEing it's time the government gave us some money back as I was told that when a child is born the government puts so much money aside for education. This money comes out of tax of all sorts and pays mainly for things like teachers. They'd find it a lot cheaper to give us a portion of that, than if we put our children in school.
It's not so much the fact that he's at diff levels I thunk its more keeping track.I have 2 boxes full of folders and more are now to be added. It just gets a bit confusing when talking to the local ed officer who visits.I admit though that she's really helpful, she knew me and my family before the job she does now and I also know that not everyone is as lucky.
Will look at other HEing threads and see what can be found even after 6yrs am still in need of tips. Thanks

Fraid not.We live near barry in south wales and there isn't much.We shop mainly on the internet for that reason and the fact that it's less on delivery charge than it would be on busfare to cardiff.
My biggest problem is that most HE kids in my area are older and that there aren't many that seem interested in getting together or so it seems.Hope to find some locally soon though.
I must admit that I would not blame you in some ways for lying it costs so much to HE and if you used to then I suppose thats one way to make up for it
