Have your children been the first/second intake to a new secondary school

looking for experiences good/bad.

We have a new secondary school opening next September. DD will be the second year intake and they will add one year at a time.

This means there will only ever be 1 year ahead of her at school.

Is this a good/bad thing. The school will be newly equipped - a good thing?
Best teachers recruited?

What about social interaction - bad thing
no exam records/history - bad thing?

Comparing this with an existing school - with older kids in the school, track record etc etc.

What do you think?

On balance when thinking about ds going into the 2nd year of a new school, we felt it would be a bit of a bad thing - management of school still settling down, no senior pupils, all new teachers, etc - altho we could also see some pluses, eg enthusiasm, no jaded teachers, wish to prove itself as a good school. Had it otherwise been the best choice for him, we would've gone for it - but it's a bit weird not having an Ofsted report to refer to, either.

I should add that I know 2 families who did choose a brand new school for their children - very sensible families, who will have researched things properly - and who are very pleased with their choice, one year on. In fact, one of the children revels in the 'being senior, making history' aspect which RTKM refers to.
