The title says it all really.

We are going to take DS1 around the schools in our area to see what he thinks of them. We live in a grammar school area. There are 3 Grammar schools in catchement that he could go to (if he passes the 11+) and 1 comp that he will go to if he doesnt pass it.

We are just not sure who should have the final say as to where he goes-me and his Dad or our son as obviously he will be the one going there for the next six years.

Any advice or opinions would be greatfully accepted.

You listen to his opinions and his reasoning and then you make the decision. He is a child.

DS1 had a preference for one of two schools. I had a preference for the other. He could not justify his preference and I explained why I thought the other would be best for him and he agreed.

I live in an area where there are 3-4 good secondary schools. I let my dd1 choice where she went to school along with me looking at all the schools. dd1 got excellent results but her and her friends from junior and other firends she made at school where not particularly happy at school and the thos was rather dictatorial.

My dd2 has gone to another school in the area but not with any of her friends from junior and the school has a much more relaxed ethos and she is far happier and will hopefully work far better than her older sister through much more of the carrot rather than the stick.

Well, the choice for us is either local comprehensive, or (super-selctive) grammar schools. DS would stand a good chance of passing the tests, but he wants to go where all his friends are going.
I don't think I can force him to do the tests. He's very stubborn knows his own mind.
