Want to move near a good school...

Would anyone be able to suggest some good areas to move to (schooling wise) without breaking the bank? I am a single mom, currently live in London, but can't really afford to financially and was thinking of moving out a bit. However I want to move to an area where there are good schools (he is only 10 months, but I want to plan so we don't have to move again when it is time for school)?

Someone suggested Upper Warlingham/purley. Any suggestion how these areas are schoolwise and property pricewise?

I would much appreciate your advice please!!

I don't know the area but just wanted to say with the cost of moving - would you consider renting particularly with the way the market is at the moment? We knew the area we wanted to move to and sold our house and then moved into rented for a while - actually nearly 18 months. It gave us the opportunity to get to know the area properly, identify roads that we wanted to buy on and get to know the estate agents so when something did come up, we were the first to see it. It also meant that we were in a very good position when the house that we wanted went to sealed bids. If your LO is only 10 months, you've got quite a bit of time to do your research, get to know the schools (have a few day trips, look at Ofsted etc) and then if you do decide to move, you can rent without committing yourself. We couldn't have afforded to move more than once - stamp duty / general costs of moving so we needed to make sure we made the right choice. Good luck!

Hi Mandy21,
Thanks for responding :)
Yes, I would do the same as you. Someone offered me a cheap rental place in Upper Warlingham and was wondering if it was worth considering? I've been through a lot lately and wouldn't want to move too far from there if I did decide to relocate. Hence the question at this stage. X
