touch typing/computer skills for 9 year old in london

Please can anyone recommend a touch typing course and/or fun basic computer skills course in central/west london. Preferably in the holidays but after school or weekends too.

My 9 year old DS has fallen behind in ICT and has now lost confidence, he just needs a boost to get his motivation back.

His handwriting problems are increasing and the school are considering letting him use a laptop instead of writing, but his 1 fingered typing is painfully slow.......

I am going to post in SEN too, in the hope that someone knows of a good course or tutor.

TIA Smile

I don't know about London, but the dyslexia centre near us run touch typing courses. My own ds is mildly dyspraxic - they were happy to offer him a place and weren't bothered that he's not dyslexic.

I've not taken them up on their offer yet (it was a bit pricey and the times would've been a nightmare) but am keeping it in mind.

For touch typing, you may be better off with one of those software packages to work through. Even if you learn typing in a class, it is pretty much what you would be doing anyway.

I bought my DS Nessie Fingers, as they use it in touch typing club in school. Can buy by download. Certainly seems fun. I learnt using Mavis Beacon, which is also quite fun.

I second Mavis Beacon. Ds learned with it and is a fast typist now, about 45wpm. It really helps to be able to type properly, for longer writing, emails etc.
