My husband has been offered a job for the skiing season dec-april,we have a six yr old child, all of us can go and our child can get a place in the local school, how easy is it to take a child out of uk school and then get a place back, any ideas?Has anyone done this?

It's very easy to take them out - you just have to write to the school to ask for them to be deregistered from X date.

How easy it is to get back in depends on the school - they won't be able to hold the place for you, so you will have to apply for a place on your return. If they normally have places empty then that will be fine, if they are normally full and have a waiting list then your chances won't be good.

If you talk to the head teacher you should be able to find out what they think the chances are.

If you want to go back to the same school then your best bet is to go and talk to the head. As long as they agree to keep the place open for you, then I think it is a case of deregistering.

Are you talking next winter ? Should give you time to sort things well in advance.

Ask the LA. Special arrangements apply to the children of migratory workers, allowing them to keep a school place which would not normally be kept waiting for them, or to be registered at more than one school. I don't know whether your family would qualify, but it's worth checking.
