Should I buy this piano ???

Hi, my mum knows a man who is a piano tuner. He has a shop and sells some new and second hand pianos. He really knows his stuff and was giving us a lot of advice.
He has one which is an Elysian upright piano in black. It looks gorgeous. It was made in 1992 and he's obviously given it a good servicing or what ever you call it. Smile It costs £1600 and that includes delivery and a free tuning once it's settled. He's also going to dampen it down a bit as it sounds a bit too bright for my taste. There was another one of the same make there which he'd done that too and it sounded gorgeous.
It's actually for my daughter who's nearly 6. She really liked it.
Is it a fair price? He said it'll last her through all the grades, which is good.
Should I go for it????

Have you read up about the make? Can't tell you if it's a fair price but we were told our old Challen was worth £1500 about 10 years ago and it was quite easy to verify from information available online. HTH

Thank you, I'll try to find out. I did have a search on google but didn't find much. I'll try a different search engine. Smile

I did see that one, but our one is much more attractive. I don't know much about pianos, I just go for the looks. Grin

Why dont you post this in extracurricular section ? so you can get more views.

I dont know anything about piano and bought one for my daughter - Yamaha upright( assembled in Kemble factory so not so bright sound compared to lot of japanese made Yamaha upright U3) for 1700 which was 3 years old. I took my then 7 year old daughter and her teacher to look at it and get their opinions.I am tone deaf so would not know any difference.
Why dont you ask her piano teacher or someone who plays the piano to accoompany you?

I read all about pianos and made sure that what we bought will be good enough till she reaches grade 8.

Well I bought a Roland digital piano new; about half the prices being quoted, and never has to be tuned. Also light enough for two people to move it around easily and it can be put in any part of the house. If you buy head phones you can practice silently if required.
