hopefully the fire book will be chnaged today. we do read it together, but like i said, its just so tedious. dd1 does well on spellings/writing but reading is [yawn]. we read a different book each night before bed, one from their own collection. little miss naughty is a good one 'tweak!!' (at which point i tweak my kis noses lol)

I have written

"How many more of these dull books?!"

we have a mixture of ORT, Jelly and Bean and another set, none of them are too bad

I wouldnt be afraid to admit to the teacher you find it dull, you clearly enjoy reading to your kids but those books sound deathly

Ours are changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and they always have 2 books so that way we get one for each day.

I find it hard to read with DT1 but really easy with DT2

I can see the value in the child having to repeat words and phrases to get them stuck in their minds - but it is dull, no question. we have:
This is Roger Red-Hat
Roger Red-Hat saw a house, it was Jennifer Yellow-Hat's house
Hello Jennifer Yellow Hat

..or some such stuff. But I race through this and get on with the good stories.

Misdee you are teaching your dd to read by showing her you enjoy books. The teachers can do the mechanics, you carry on with the stories you like. I can't read Monkey Puzzle without crying

Any decent childrens book repeats the same phrases again and again (eg. were going on a bear hunt, Not Now Bernard etc.). thing is tho they do it in a fun and interesting way that the kids enjoy and doesnt drive the adults insane.
Dr. Suess is a type of reading scheme just a FUN one. It repeat basic words endlessly....I do not like green eggs and ham anyone.
Allan ahlberg and Colin Mc Naughton have also done some good 'reading scheme' books . We have A Bears Birthday at home and dd loves it cos the pictures are fantastic and funny (have to confess it bores me to tears tho Mind you so does Were going on a bear hunt). Check out the happy families series too. they are great.
