I have just thrown some of my dd's school books in the bin

I have repeatedly asked her to tidy her room or at least empty the floor which she has pretty much refused to do. So left with no alternative I have gone in with a bin and lifted everything inc her pyjamas, magazines, 3 school books, homework and her phone charger off the floor and into the bin. I am adamant she wont retrieve these items but wonder how will school view it?

I think you have to fish out the school books - surely these are technically the school's property?

flamebat · 04/10/2005 17:19

yup, school books should come out unless you want her to be charged for them too

happymerryberries · 04/10/2005 17:21

They will charge her (you) for them

ladysnoboftipton · 04/10/2005 17:23

ok school books will come out but what about homework?

Nope, redo homework or be told off at school

fimac1 · 04/10/2005 17:25

Would have got rid of magazines and confiscated phone charger if it was me!

If she's done the homework, I think you're being a bit hard on her.

LadyDragonOfSoup · 04/10/2005 17:28

I think I'd let her have the homework back if she tidies her room.

ladysnoboftipton · 04/10/2005 17:30

the room is now tidy though - Ive done it! apart from her desk admittedly.

When's the homework due in? If it's a fair way away, make her keep the room tidy to earn it back. In fact, you could make this a condition for her to earn back any of the items you've thrown away.

ladysnoboftipton · 04/10/2005 18:45

its a condition for her weekly allowance which Ive already subbed her to buy her friend's bday present

my dad used to do that with us. we were told to tidy or black bags would appear. he did keep school things but the bags were locked away and we had to earn our things back.

I've just done exactly the same with dd1. when its in the bin, its in the bin. i am quite careful not to throw away school text books, or shoes, etc but dont let her see I am hooking them out.
I'm absolutely sick of the mess, the constant hassle over tidying it, and the fact awful rubbish and dirty washing is in there if I do the 'leave it and dont look' approach.
tbh it certainly doesnt hurt just before christmas when it will fill up quickly with junk from relatives anyhow. dont do it often but they know i mean business when I do.
depends on the state of homework imo, if tis done and neat and ready to be handed in, she should keep it, if its screwed up, tatty, overdue/not finished STILL, and kicking about on the floor, it is part of what goes in the bin.

My dds 5 and 4) beleive in the bin bag fairy!
she comes when they are in bed and takes anything left out!
