how do i change my career to HR?

I am a Management Accountant by trade and have a degree in business and am a passed finalist at CIMA.
In my studies I have always enjoyed the people side and the HR modules and am considering a career change. It's a good time for me as I am a SAHM at the moment but have the time to study in preparation for going back to work.
I have had a quick look but am getting very confused about what i would need to study, specific career options etc
Is there anyone out there who can tell me if this would be an easy transition, where my current qualifications would help with further study etc or anywhere useful online to start?

thanks

The obvious place to start is to look at the CIPD website, there's details on qualifications up to becoming chartered, and if you're interested in generalist HR, that's the qualification everyone will ask for.

Having said that, I work in HR and have no CIPD qualifications, I'm a psychologist by background, and work in talent management, so it's not an absolute. Working in learning & development / training doesn't seem to require CIPD to the same extent, and you may be able to use your prior knowledge here.

A lot of companies now have HR Business Partner roles, and I can see someone with you background, with the right CIPD training, being very valuable in this kind of role because it's about being part of the management business decision making process; understanding finance would be a real advantage here.

Someone qualified with the CIPD will be able to advise you better on that side of things - there are plenty about, if they don't see your thread here repost on Employment Issues or Going Back to Work, where lots of HR people can be found.

HTH as a starter!
