DS1 (yr3) told he made an idiotic comment

DS1 made a comment to his teacher that the equator lines etc.. looked like a road to him and she said "what an idiotic comment". He's only 7 fgs! She also called him selfish the other week when he asked for another book. This is the norm with her apparently

I'm helping out on the school trip soon and will have to bite my tongue that day but if it carries on I'm going to have to talk to her.

allboys - you reminded me - there is a boy in DD's class who sits behind her and plaits her hair in assembly - the teacher told me he is autistic. It occupies him during assembly and DD doesn't mind!! It makes me laugh to picture the scene in my head of her getting her hair done!

I have a friend who is a newly qualified teacher. Some of the things she says about the children in her class - well, she's a very nice friend but NO WAY would I let her teach my kids. eg. ''Can you believe I have a 7-yr-old boy in my class who doesn't know his alphabet in order - what a thicko'' etc. I can't believe her attitude to the poor kids in her class. She was very indignant the other week cos a parent had a go at her for saying a boy had behaved ''like a fool'' . And my ds's old teacher used to say things like ''aren't boys silly, girls!''

I should walk away from this thread.....

The woman shouldn't have done it.

Jaberwocky, not all teachers are like this, please don't damn us all becuaes of this bad example.

I know of parents who don't care if their kids tell the teacher to fuck off (there is a thread on the TES website on this BTW, listing things kids have said to teacher....one of the worst was a teacher being called a stupid cunt by a child in primary).

I fully realise that these are kids and that this woman is supposed to be a professional. My point is that some parents can be complete liabilities when it comes to raising their kids, but that wouldn't give me the right , as a teacher, to damn them all, would it?

HMB - don't take it personally, it's not about you.

happymerryberries · 05/10/2005 18:42

No, I know that. It is just that i feel that the teachers on MN can feel a bit punch drunk at this time of year.

I realise that people can often have very good reason to be upset after situations like this.....fwiw, I don't think the behvaiour is appropriate either, but threads sometimes become a 'why are teachers so crap' thread...and i always feel that I have to say , 'hey, not all of us' when the generalisations start.

spookymoo · 05/10/2005 18:44

hmb, I only think ds1's teacher is crap, not all teachers

happymerryberries · 05/10/2005 18:53

No, and I don't think all parents are crap either!

It is just that time of the year again....I should go on a MN sabatical for the first half term I think.

Awww don't feel offended hmbI totally know what you mean about parents though, thankfully those type are few and far between at the boys school but my friend's son goes to a school where this is the norm and it's shocking.

I'd say most of the teachers at the boys school are fantastic. It's an excellent school and up to now I've been really pleased that the boys go there. I'm just going to see how things go regarding his new teacher as ds1 doesn't really want me to say anything even though it's gnawing at me.
